Catherine Place creates a
welcoming space that provides enrichment opportunities promoting spiritual,
intellectual, physical and emotional well-being for women. Founded by the
Tacoma Dominican Community in 2000, Catherine Place is located in the heart
of Tacoma, Washington and serves the community as:

Mission, Vision and Values
Mission/Philosophy
The purpose of Catherine Place is to improve the quality of
life for women by creating a gentle and
sacred space to encourage each woman to claim her dignity and worth and by providing
opportunities for spiritual and personal growth.
Catherine
Place welcomes women of diverse cultural, spiritual, and economic
backgrounds. We are committed to addressing the special needs of women who
are materially poor or who are in transition and struggling with issues such
as domestic violence, sexual abuse, chemical dependency, child custody,
homelessness, troubled relationships, physical or mental illness, and death.

empowering women-listening, learning and sharing, dreaming with one another,
honoring diversity and all cultures, and building healthy relationships in
families, neighborhoods, and communities.

Ongoing Groups/Classes
focus on personal growth and spirituality topics including yoga, meditation,
AA, women's spirituality, and life transitions.
Workshops/Retreats address
issues related to
self-care, loss and grief, transitions, healthy
relationships,
and creative expression.
Listening Companions offer support and advocacy
as individuals work through the stresses and transitions associated with
loss, unemployment, abuse, death of a loved one
and other significant life events.
Life
Skills Mentoring include topics such as communication, parenting,
budgeting, resume-writing and effective decision-making.
Community Advocacy is a vital part of our collaboration
with homeless and transitional shelters, violence prevention agencies,
church groups, and neighborhood associations as together we work to build a
safer and more peaceful community.

Catherine Place is named after the fourteenth century
Dominican, Catherine of Siena. With passion for the truth and compassion for
humanity, Catherine's vision effected change in the society of her day.
Through empowerment of women and the challenging of unjust systems, the
Board and Staff of Catherine Place are committed to effecting change in
today's world.
We offer hospitality and advocacy to women who participate in
personal growth experiences that affirm their dignity and worth. In the
company of women from diverse spiritual traditions, each woman is invited to
uncover her own spiritual pathway.
The Board of Directors'
responsibilities include: the development of the mission, policy setting,
strategic planning, and financial oversight. The staff, consisting of an
Executive Director, an Associate Director, and two volunteer professional
staff members, is responsible for the implementation of all Catherine Place
programs, events and services.
Volunteer/Internship Opportunities
Volunteers are an essential part of the operation of
Catherine Place.
