  Welcome

Catherine Place creates a welcoming space that provides enrichment opportunities promoting spiritual, intellectual, physical and emotional well-being for women. Founded by the Tacoma Dominican Community in 2000, Catherine Place is located in the heart of Tacoma, Washington and serves the community as:

bullet An urban personal growth and spirituality center for women.
bullet A place of gathering for women of diverse cultural, spiritual and economic backgrounds.
bullet A safe haven where enrichment and healing experiences occur in individual and group contexts.
bullet A meeting place for groups who share the vision for a more just and peaceful world.

"I've been lucky to meet many other women who are open to sharing joys and sorrows, ideas and opinions, prayers and problems, in a lovely home that gives me a safe and secure place to grow and come out of my darkness."

   Our Mission, Vision and Values

their varied life journeys."

   Catherine Place Programs

"I enter the world a better person
because of my experiences here
and so am better able to make a
positive difference in the lives of others."

Ongoing Groups/Classes focus on personal growth and spirituality topics including yoga, meditation, AA, women's spirituality, and life transitions.

Workshops/Retreats address issues related to self-care, loss and grief, transitions, healthy relationships, and creative expression.

Listening Companions offer support and advocacy as individuals work through the stresses and transitions associated with loss, unemployment, abuse, death of a loved one and other significant life events.

Life Skills Mentoring include topics such as communication, parenting, budgeting, resume-writing and effective decision-making.

Community Advocacy  is a vital part of our collaboration with homeless and transitional shelters, violence prevention agencies, church groups, and neighborhood associations as together we work to build a safer and more peaceful community.

  Board of Directors/ Staff

"At Catherine Place I find a way to give back to my community. I value the creative opportunities to collaborate in the empowerment of women as we move toward greater safety and fulfillment in life."

Catherine Place is named after the fourteenth century Dominican, Catherine of Siena. With passion for the truth and compassion for humanity, Catherine's vision effected change in the society of her day. Through empowerment of women and the challenging of unjust systems, the Board and Staff of Catherine Place are committed to effecting change in today's world.

We offer hospitality and advocacy to women who participate in personal growth experiences that affirm their dignity and worth. In the company of women from diverse spiritual traditions, each woman is invited to uncover her own spiritual pathway.

The Board of Directors' responsibilities include: the development of the mission, policy setting, strategic planning, and financial oversight. The staff, consisting of an Executive Director, an Associate Director, and two volunteer professional staff members, is responsible for the implementation of all Catherine Place programs, events and services.
